Carl Anthony Hines
A Jamaican native, Carl-Anthony Hines is a young composer/arranger, music tutor, tenor vocalist, and percussionist; a recent graduate of the Bachelor of Musical Arts degree at the University of the West Indies (UWI) St. Augustine Campus.
Over the past decade, Carl-Anthony has composed over fifteen commissioned pieces of music, as well as several scored arrangements, his favoured genres being Sacred anthems, Negro Spirituals and Caribbean folk. He has served in several capacities across several musical and artistic endeavours, notably the executives of the Mona and St Augustine Campus Chorales (University Chorale Mona, UWI Arts Chorale, St Augustine), and the UWI Arts Percussion Ensemble. Outside of University life, Carl-Anthony has served as a foundation member, tenor soloist percussionist and a resident composer to the Jamaica Youth Chorale as well as a member of the Diocesan Festival Choir, 'Vocez' Vocal Chamber Ensemble, The University Singers, the Brandenburg Singers, The Jamaica National Festival Choir and The Ambrosian Ensemble. As a dancer, Carl-Anthony served as a company member of the Jamaica-based Company Dance Theatre, and as a guest dancer with The Metamorphosis Dance company and Astor Johnson Repertory Dance Theatre in Trinidad and Tobago
An active member of the Lydians since 2014, in 2016 Carl-Anthony took charge of the choir as Guest Conductor and Rehearsal Master on a full-time, volunteer basis. He was then appointed as Assistant Musical Director from July 2017 to July 2019, and subsequently served as Interim Musical Lead. Carl-Anthony was appointed Musical Director of The Lydians effective October 1, 2020. In 2016 he started the Young Artists’ Workshop and In-House concert series, now in its fifth year, it has grown each year and continues to be a safe and encouraging platform for budding performers within the organization
